2001 Running Rough after restart
I have a 2001 7.3 PSD with 99K miles on it. It will start just fine, run well when first started, but give me fits if I shut if off and then restart. When I restart the check engine light comes one for 45 seconds, then the light turns off and the engine will randomly increase and decrease the throttle. This use to only go one for 30 seconds or so but this weekend it did this for at least 10 minutes, the engine died as I was driving on three occasions. When I restarted tons of white smoke would come from the exhaust, almost like there was water in the fuel. Then after those ten minutes it ran fine again. I am not much of a mechanic but is there easy things to check? Is there a diesel water seperator that can become full of water? Fuel filter, fuel pump? Any self diagnosis tips would be greatly appreciated!

Usually not. This weekend it was shut off for roughly an hour, but last night it did it to me again after 30 minutes being turned off. It's fit only lasted 2 minutes or so last night as I was driving, did not shut off this time, and seemed to run fine after that point. It always seems to run well from complete cold starts.

I have a 2000 F350 7.3L diesel, starts fine, 5 minutes later 80% power loss and sounds like its running on 3 or 4 cylinders. No smoke. Just started doing this seems intermittant. Any ideas? Oh yeah, also the Service Engine Soon Light comes on>
