I recently rebuilt a 400 for my 1977 F150 4x4 looking for more power. I had the block shaved to increase compression, I put an RV type Comp Cam in it with the timing straight up, Edelbrock 4 barrel manifold and a Edlebrock 4 barrel carb and later went to a Carter AFB. My truck is mainly used for off road. It has 35" tires, an automatic transmission, a Detroit locker in the rear and a Eaton electric locker in the front. I was fairly happy with the power of the truck but could never get the flooding issue's to go away in extreme off road conditions { steep inclines }. I finally had to go back to a Ford factory 2 barrel with a 2 to 4 barrel adapter and have had no more problems but I miss the added HP the 4 barrel gave me. Any suggestions anyone, other than after market fuel injection.

That's the only issue I've had with my Edelbrock. My truck is 2wd, but every now and then I get in my back yard hauling in material on steep slopes and it has a tendency to flood.
Your better choice for a 4x4 on steep inclines would probably be a Holley Truck Avenger carb. Maybe check the 73-79 forum and ask for recommendations.
X2 on the holley truck avenger. I have the street avenger, and love it for my kinda driving, and I have read articles about the truck avenger, and it has the design to do step inclines. For size I have the same motor pretty much except an elgin cam, 484in512ex and I have the 670cfm. I wonder if the 570 might be big enough, but not sure. I get almost 10mpg too, except when towing uphill.
