Transmission Woes
2001 super duty f-250 7.3 diesel two wheel drive. When pulling my 40' toyhauler this weekend, I attempted to accelerate up a steep grade. It didn't want to shift into low gear. The rpm raced into the red zone and would not go past 30 mph. When I backed off of the accelerator, and the rpm decreased, it violently banged into gear. It seemed to slip and I smelled burning clutch plates. Reverse only works when in gear for about 30 seconds, It too bangs into gear. Also, the overdrive light on the shifter arm flashes on and off. The transmission was rebuilt about 15,000 miles ago. Is the a minor repair or is it back to the drawing board? Thanks for your input.

Back to the drawing board. Sounds like the torque converter may have failed and the shrapnel is probably plugging up the filter. This just happend to our Dodge Ram2500 at work which had only 1,000 miles on tranny rebuild.
