I have figured out my mysterious clunking noise is a for sure bad sway bar end link bushing. Its all torn up and noticeable to just the naked eye. But along with that i have a squeek that i cannot pinpoint. You hear it with hitting speed bumps at low speeds and also if you are to stand on my running board and jump up and down.
I am not for certian if it is from the shocks or the leaf springs, or possibly anything else it could be. It is obvious it is tracked down to the suspension some how. Is their a easy way to tell if it is either of them, or to tell if the shocks are bad? Is their a test i can do like one at a time spray the joints and meeting points with some type of lubrication to make it stop so i know where its coming from?
Any previous problems or anything anyone else has had have any advice or suggestions? Thanks Brotherhood!
We were doing some maintenance on a fellow FTE'er's truck at my house and we found that his lower shock bracket on the rear axle was loose and causing a squeak. We found it by having him jump in the bed while I laid underneath. I just tightened up the u-bolt that holds the bracket to the axle tube. Just a thought.
If Chris's fix isn't the problem. Get some dish washing soap mix 50/50 with water, use a spray bottle and spray each component one at a time with the spray, then bounce the running board. The soap will act as a lube, but will wash off and not leave a mess.
Chris and Bob have good suggestions that should help get you started. I also recommend that you check and see if your spring tip isolator pads are still there and in one piece. They are plastic and can break apart and the pieces fall out. when that happens you will have metal on metal and it will make a squeaking sound. Good luck. Hunting down suspension noises is my least favorite thing to do. I always end up finding a bunch of other problems in the process.
That is a good idea Bob thanks. Is it ok to spray up in the shocks under the cover? Is their another way to tell if the shocks themselves are bad period?
