Looks like I may have a coolant leak in the '05 F-150. I haven't dug into it yet but if it ends up being a cracked head, are there any aftermarket heads available for these engines that are not prone to cracking?
The local engine builder that I've used over the years said he's had quite a few 4.2's in for cracked heads. My research has come up with the 4.2 having a variety of gasket problems, especially the first generations, but no trend for cracked heads. He may be getting confused with all of the Chevy motors he works on.
I'm going to look into having my heads port and polished. Hopefully a more economical way then Super Six heads. That's if one isn't cracked. I'm losing coolant somewhere but hoping it's the head gasket.
