I have a 97 explorer. After running a few hours the heater quits for a while. I can hear the fan running but nothing comes out. Tried the ac with the same result. Some air comes out rear vent. The dash seems to get warmer when this happens. Normally this would not bother me, but its stinkin winter up here in PA. I looked through the board but cant find another post with the same symptoms. Ford garage wants to put a new heater in it for $600 but I am not yet convinced that is the problem. I need some advice from ford owners that are not out to get my money. Thanks.
i had a similar problem with my explorer (94 eb sport) and it was the resistor on the blower motor housing. it was some how corroded. the male terminals on the resistor rusted and broke??? how i may never know but it happened. i replaced the resistor, unfortunatley its a dealer or junkyard only part. dealer was 55$ and the heater works fine. but if your resistor is bad you wont have some of the fan speeds. i have also had to replace the fan switch 2x. same reason.
