from the pic the unison ring looks busted/cracked right where they usually fail.
Here's an after pic, I don't think it even needed cleaning but I had it out of the truck anyways so... There are no cracks, pitting, or any galling. All in all it looks really good. I gave it a coating of anti-seize and then wiped off all I could get off. Where do they usually crack, I've never seen a cracked/bad one.
when looking at your unison ring picture (at the 9 o'clock position) where there is no vane, cracks are near the inside edge at the narrowest point. From the picture it looks like there is a crack. in the latest picture above the flash is too bright to see the same area (6:30 position).

Oh, interesting, must be some serious stress and/or heat cycles going on inside a turbo
