good day i am looking at a 1977 f150 for the frame and suspention to replace the one on my 78 f250 as i want to do a complete body swap [cab, box, frontclip] [1] for the softer ride [2] my reg cab just dosnt steer that good will every thing bolt up? cab mounts, box mounting holes,78 tilt steering colume to 78 ford ps box ujoints from a dana 60 to a ford 9" please advise if you can help as this truck is a good price and probebly wont last long thank you regurds joe
I am assuming you mean reg cab, long bed for each model. Since it is a 77 half ton and a 78 3/4 ton the beds should be the same and will interchange. The cabs front mounts should be the same but I believe the half tons mounts will be on the inside of the frame which all you will have to do is just redrill its holes into the frame which is a piece of cake. The front clip will just swap right over but I think you might get into trouble with the radiator supports. You might have to use your old one there. I believe there were two types, (ones with the mounts in front and ones with the mounts in rear). I believe the 78 column will need to have been with ps origonally but I am not sure of that exactly to be able to bolt up the the 78 ps. As for the rearends u-joints have no clue.
yes talking about both reg cab long boxes i will be useing every thing including wireing engine body exaust i have being fighting this steering issue ever since i bought the truck 6 years ago,had to a few different shops, every mechanic that has ever worked in our shop has being under it,and cant find any thing wrong but the frame has to be off or bent as the steering does not want to come back to center around a corner [90 degree or highway] and i have went through 3 steering boxes, and have tried to ajust it every way possable tired of fighting it any more so i will try a new angle [plus i got a excuse to be in my "heated" garage that i just installed a heater]lol but thanks for the info you guys rock regurds joe
