I just had some new rubber put on the truck about two weeks ago. I decided to try out the Firestone Transforce AT's. I also went down a size from 285's to 265/75/16's.
Road manners are outstanding, and using the term quiet at speed doesn't do them justice. I would say they are close to silent at least up to 85MPH. I just got back from a trip to the western side of the state 527 miles with the windows down and heard other vehicles tires vs. my own.
I haven't towed any distance with them just around 8K worth of hay out of my field which is less than a 100 yards
I've run BFG's, Cooper Discoverer's, Toyo Open Country's and have to say these have the best initial satisfaction of them all. Granted sizes and load ranges have been different between the tires but I am very pleased with these and will work on adding wear, off-road and towing reports as they age.
I have run the transforce 285/75r/16 for quite awhile. I pull a 4 horse Sundowner LQ trailer. Truck and trailer empty weigh 21K with myself in the truck the diesel tank full and generator tank full of. I have had no problems and have been more satisfied than I was when I had Coopers, Kelleys, or BFG. Some of the other farmers around here are running Hankooks and like their aggressiveness. I run 14 ply Hankooks on my horse trailer and it stopped all the grenade issues I had. The best thing about the Firestone is I get to buy them through my wife's employer at fleet price.
I have just about wore out the Transforce AT tires I have. The only complaint I have about these tires is the traction on wet pavement. It is very poor.
I myself am a BFG T/A K.O. lover. Tire noise is a little more then most others, but here in SoCal sun baked earth and sand dominate the areas unpaved. With 2 weeks of snow a year, the BFG Mountain and Snow rating are a blessing when the way home gets snowed in unexpectanly. 4X4 plus bfgs get you thru S-2 roads. Just my two cents...
I had some Firestones on my Explorer back when they had the recall from Ford. I ran those tires until the very end of the recall and would have gladly taken any of the tires they pulled off vehicles during that period. I was impressed with them then and still am. IMHO the issue was stupid vehicle owners who never checked their tire pressures and overheated the tires. If I recall correctly all the "events" occurred in the south west.

I had the BFG's in plenty of snow in NH. I lived in the side of a small abandoned ski mountain. They got me through the snow but overall I was more impressed with my Coopers and Toyo's for snow. Being down here in NC now I don't need to worry bout snow traction.
