hello i am having problems with the brakes on my truck a 1984 ford f250 hoping you all can help pin point my problem
here is the problem i have good brakes most of the time but sometimes when i hit the brakes they feel hard and will hardly stop if i step on them hard the rear brakes lock up but here is where it gets odd i can let off brakes hit them again and stops fine i can not find any leaking fluid on any wheel master is full the front brakes are in good shape and stop fine untill it gets a wild hair my guess is ether a master cylinder or maybe the proportioning vavle the master has been painted so i am guessing its been replaced at some time
I had to redo the whole breaking system in my 85 f150, most of the parts were good that i replaced but I worked my way back to the master cylinder, my problem was (aside from rear right break being seized) the breaks would work or they wouldent and I would have to hit them a few times, they would faid when they did work and I was leiking break fluid about 250ml a day driveing to work and back (30min to 1hr total)
try replaceing the master cylinder, just be sure to bleed it properly, and bleed all the lines.
ok when i get paid next friday i will replace the master cylinder and the brake booster also i do know it is leaking vac alittle when i hit brakes so will replace both peices
thanks for the help
Can the power brake booster be rebuilt or do you have to buy a new one? I know they aren't much, but was just asking the question. I see O'reilly's has the booster for $79 and the master cylinder for $39.
