I have a 429 engine. It has C8VE-E on the heads, and a factory four barrel. I checked the stroke and its 3.59 so I definately have a 429 but I dont know which one, or how many HP it came with from the factory. Can someone help me. Thanks
Depends on the pistons/block. Later blocks had a slightly taller deck height so it affects CR somewhat also.
Original 68 429's had flat top pistons. around 10.5:1 compression ratio and were rated at 360 HP. C8 heads were small chamber, around 77CC's. I have 2 sets of C8's and 1 set DOVE's and all are NEARLY identical.
If someone rebuilt it, put in dished pistons to drop the CR down then HP would be less.
by now the factory ratings mean very little IMHO
so many variables that can happen in 40+years.
most likely a thunderjet originally...early tbird 429.
possibly from an LTD.

Actually the 4 barrel 429 was originally 11.0 to 1 compression while the 2 barrel was 10.5 to 1.
and the entire difference was the intake manifold and carb.
They were ACTUALLY the same compression ratio.
Then why quote two different compression numbers if they were the same? The FE engines had different compression ratios for the 4V and the 2V so why not he 429?
FE engines used different heads for different applications. 385 series engines didn't use different heads for any of the standard 429/460 engines within any given year. (obviously the boss and CJ/SCJ are the exception to that)
