Awesome. I'll have to keep an eye out for one. Even if I don't find one, I like the look of rounder gauges compared to stock, or adding a bunch of gauges on the door jamb or under dash.
yeah i am good at craming technology into thing in low tech ways.
right now i use a playstation portable *psp* to provide my audio.
i just rip my cd's at 190 + bits per second load them to the psp use a 3.5mm jack to the 3.5mm input on my 80 dollar sony head unit. that out puts sound to a matched set of speakers. since the head unit doesn't have to do any thing but add wattage to the signal it goes from highdef - speakers with no loss. end result $80 hi-def hi-fi system in a 40 year old truck.
and the psp does video too. then i hook up my cell phone *android based back flip from moterola* and i use it to make calls mp3 video etc. even has a gps speedo on it now finally no more worries when i cop pulls in behind me.
when i was living in sandiego i used to hook my lap top up and watch an episode of my fav show while i smoked my corn cob pipe. though my redneck / hightech watching the seeker season 1 was funny to mention.
it took about and episode per pipe bowl.
Haha. I do the same thing in the family car, except I use my iPod, well I did. The iPod is all messed up and I can't fix it. Time for a new one, I guess.
Do you have any pics of your set-up? I'm not putting video screens in mine, unless it's one of those single din pop-up screens. then maybe.
ok dont judge it to harshly it is a work in progress. seems like all i can do just to keep her going to get the kids to school etc. but winter is coming up and that is work on truck time so you will start to see some progress coming through here and on my posts on the other ford site i have a post dedicated to its progress dismal but there it is with links. i use the same name on every forum i go to so i am easy to find i will pm interested people the exact link if requested.
ok the radio was just the sony gift pack from walmart 100 buck and it has the head unit headphone jack cable included. no controlling the mp3 player but universal input. psps have a remote built into thier head phones kind so i just use that the same way as the old add on cd players used to use .
the radio was installed by cutting up "A-35s" in half. it looks really bad but it worked. one of my projects is to go to the bone yard and grab a radio opening black out it says ford right on it and move the head unit into the glove compartment.
after that i am debating puting in a very small video screen and using the psp video out feature from the newer psp's to give me a screen. any way with the head unit hidden in the old glove box area i can just use the remote from the stereo to adjust sound etc psp remote to do mp3 chores and close the door to hide all the tech looking in it would all look low tech bone stock work truck with center consol and car seats *with a to be gotten f600 dash and guages*.
and if you are in the market for a new ipod replace ment get the psp trust me the sound difference will blow your mind. they have external memory sticks so the 20gb and the 2 gb units are the same price. they do movies on a bigger screen. get the psp 3000 not the new smaller unit it is a waste.
Nice. We had Until my sister wrecked it) a Sony XPlod radio. Very nice unit, but unfortunately, it took a beating while I was putting new wires in the radio system (new speakers and all). She lost her balance and smooshed it.
Ah well, get another later on.
Right now I'm floating towards a Zune, but nothing definite. As for the head unit, I'm thinking wither an Xplod or a single din slide out screen. Only other thing is deciding the speakers and stuff.
Ive been thinking of adding a Tach & Guages to my '69 which has the origional dash. I wanted to go with the old school look, Tach on the column & 3 guage set mounted under the dash. BUT now I am going to look for the 600 panel but dont know where to start , can you give me any info?
I live in Portland , Or. if that makes any difference.
Thanks, RKFord
You can find them in the late 60's - mid-70's (I'm not sure how far in the 70's), call around for 600, 700 and I'm told even 800 series had them. When you call just ask if they have any of the older trucks because they probably won't know what panel you're looking for, and if you do find one just don't make a big fuss about it or they might double the price LOL. I'll get back to you about the date ranges.
