1986 cats

i have a 1986 f150 with a 302 efi. it looks like it has two cats. i think the o2 sensor is hooked up to the first one. is there any need for the rear one?

anyone have any thoughts on removing the second cat? or has anyone done it? i live in texas and any vehicle over 25 yrs old they only do a visual check. no tail pipe test. i was going to leave the first cat. im thinking about running exhaust into a thrush welded muffler with two turn downs after it. what do you think? thanks
