Curious what others have to say about this topic. FTE is the primary forum that I watch for news/info/updates RE: the 2011 SD 6.7. However, I know that multiple forums exist...some specific to Ford products, and others more generic to the diesel industry. My question is this: Is any particular forum "better" or "more polular" than others?
Every now and then, I'll glance over at thedieselstop.com and will come across a new thread or topic that hasn't been posted on FTE. I also see names from this forum, so obviously others are checking in elsewhere as well. I don't have time nor the interest to continually monitor every forum related to the the new Ford diesel. At the same time, I don't want to miss a good or important update, especially one related to problems or issues with the 6.7. It would be great if there was one Forum that captured at least 90% or so of the topics out there. I will occassionally hear something from a buddy of mine who is a smart, reputable, and brand neutral person, and he'll mention an issue that I either haven't heard about yet. I often wonder if some problems are being posted in other forums that I'm simply not seeing, which is quite possible since there are places I'm not currently monitoring.
Where does FTE rank in terms of general popularity? Is there a recommendation for maybe one other forum I should monitor as frequently as I monitor this one?
Appreciate the insight. BTW, this is a great forum....many good/experienced/objective people who like Ford products and are willing to share/offer advice so others can learn and get the most out of their Ford SD. I'm not one to bash other manufacturers, they all have challenges from time to time. I try to stay objective with my evaluations, and try to stay informed with the latest info. I am a long time Ford fan and truly feel they have the best HD truck out there today. I'm hoping they nailed it with the 6.7, and problems seem to be minimal so far, but I'd like to make sure there isn't good information out there I'm missing by relying on this forum for a majority of the updates.
I am most active in this forum (FTE) but I also read and post at The Diesel Stop and The Diesel Garage. FTE seems to have the greatest volume of activity, which is good. It's a really good group here. Bashers and trolls are rare. I've seen more of that type of stuff in the other forums.
If I have a video or something I really want an answer for, I'll post on FTE and TDS.
Like Epic, I frequent most of them and also post on TDS. If you look at the daily post counts you will see that this forum leads by a bunch. There is more participation here. Also as Epic said, the nonsense posts seem to stay away from here. I have seen more than a few outright falsehoods posted elsewhere. I call this forum home and visit the others.
I am the opposite. I have never even seen the other forum sites, never even tried to view their websites.
FTE was found by me having an issue with my 6.4 and now I just stay here. It boggles my mind to talk to people and see all the SD's out there and wonder what it must be like to drive one of these and not have this resource. If the dealer were the only source for learning about updates, common problems, new products, I would seriously be behind the times.
FTE has more than enough participation and info to keep me occupied and to keep my truck working properly.
I visit one or two other sites also but I have never seen any of the other sites have guest appearances by Ford engineers who actually take the time to answer our questions.
The other reason I ask the question is because there was a thread on thedieselstop.com related to a 6.7 turbo problem: Turbo problems on 6.7 - Diesel Forum - TheDieselStop.com. This particular person was having problems with their dealer properly identifying the issue. There was a post in the thread from someone with the user name "FordCRC", which is apparently someone from Ford HQ (Ford Customer Relationship Center) who must monitor that forum. This representative offered to step in an help resolve that particular issue, which appears to be an impressive representation of Ford's commitment to resolve any issues with the new drivetrain.
I have never seen a post from FordCRC on the FTE forum, and perhaps that's because no issues have been posted here requiring that type of assistance. Just made me wonder if anyone from Ford HQ is also monitoring FTE like they are apparently doing for thedieselstop.com. I know we have some dealers and other very qualified technical people on FTE, but it would be nice to know that FTE is also monitored by representatives from Ford HQ so they benefit from all of the great information that's shared here.
Ford CRC people absolutely watch this site. There does not seem to be the bad information postings on this site that go on at TDS. There is also a lot more anger spread around among posters. IMO, people get better answers here and Ford responses would be redundant. I will say though, I visit the other sites to see what may have gotten there first. For some reason, TDS is the preferred site for RVnet Ford bashers to send posters with Ford technical problems. I try my best to send them here.
Forddieselpower.com is my primary site, but FTE is my second home. I love this site and FDP, because there is no drama like some of the others. We are here to help each other out, thats what it is about. Not about talkin smack or callin people out and actin childish. thats what i see at a couple of the other sites. Great info here
About a year ago I had visited one of the other sites you mention and read that they were robbed of their info. I tried going back for a couple months and I never felt they recovered. Maybe someone else can chime in. I felt bad that something like that could happen, but seems there are so many ways to back up your site.

You would be correct about ways to backup data.
Hardware fails, software becomes corrupt and less rare, attackers/hackers cause the damage.
If you care about your electronic data, it should at least be backed up onsite but best to keep backup's somewhere safe off-site.
At least those who have lost data, normally learn from their mistake.
