Have a 2006 Lincoln Mark LT w/ 48K and occasionaly I experience a clunk in drivetrain at 45 MPH when under light load, like going upgrade. Had it to dealer and he put 20 miles on and couldn't get it to repeat. Yet on way home from dealer it happened again. One time it ws severe, then the past few times aoccasional and some time not at all. Frustrating, anyone else experience this and if so what was the fix.
Can we get a little more detail?
It sounds like it's doing this on the downshift...is that right? Like 3rd to 2nd? There are some owners that have reported recieving a reflash of the PCM to eliminate similar problems.
Let us know a little more about it.
Reflashing the CPM is worht a shot, but this clunkseems to be at about the point it goes in to overdrive and it can't make up its mind. However once when towing my boat trailer it accted up and I had use the bypass button for the overdrive so it would go into overdrive.
Maybe I have two issues going on? Slip Yoke and CPM???
There's a TSB that involves some 1-2 shift issues and gear searching, but those issues rarely involve an associated "cluck". A "clunk" sounds mechanical by nature. If you know someone at the dealership who is willing to reflash (or update) the PCM it could be an easy fix. If you don't know anybody the dealership will be happy to reflash for $100, Assuming you can convince them to do it without first attempting to run their normal diagnostic procedures for your symptoms. Most dealers resist the average joe coming to the counter and asking for a reflash.
