lx4life - great job on the do-it-yourself replacement. I'm facing the same delima and wondered where you got your step by step guide (trial and error or were you able to find info on one of the forums?). I'd pretty mechanically inclined but haven't found much info on doing this repair yourself.

Thanks.

Here is a link also you can get your parts from silverstatefordparts.com just let them know that tascaparts has them for cheaper, I like silverstatefordparts because they ship fedex which is faster and there customer service is great. they refunded me my money once I found them for cheaper through tasca again if you just let them before hand they will take care of it.

Cam phaser kit 3R2Z-6A257-DA x 2
Valve Cover Gasket 3L3Z-6584-EA you need left and right

here is a link to rent the tool I ended up getting back $50. You NEED this tool.

Angry BUILT FORD TOUGH HUH !!!!

BUILT FORD TOUGH HUH??? We bought a2008 in Nov 2007 Ford 150 Larait 40,000.00. In the summer of 2008 while backing boat up to a dock truk made a noise like water in the gas lasting 30 sec husband pused on gas pedal noise went away. 2009 while pulling fish house on lake same thing .no noise again till 2010 Oct nois again more often took to dealer they said did not hear anything saw nothing wrong could not diagnoie problem . 2 weeks ago bad nois same noise at idle but did not go away went to dealer . they said cam phasers. But you are under warrent only 35,000 mile on it. 5 days later they said because we changed the oil at 8,000 instead of the 7,000 an there for it was maintance negelct and was not covered. They said we used after market filters and caused a sludge build up and there for it was our problem. Now the dealer is saying we could wash it out and it may work or you can trad it for another one. WHO WANTS ANOTHER ONE ?I called an eengineer and he said bull the cam phasear were not working correctly in 2008 and by depressing the fuel pedal it would reset but not correctly. THus the temp of the oil was not hot enough therefor the oil was not dispersed properly and caused the build up .??? HUH. What is really going on here???

p0022 code

Hey rcknrbn and lx4life,

I'm having a very issue similar to your previous posts. Truck is an '07 f-150 5.4 with aprox 75k mi with regular maintenance, rough idle and hesitation started one day pulling in my drive. Now it only throws code p0022. Had multiple codes before which resulted in the replacement of two coils, plugs, and crank sensor before arriving at p0022 code only. Resetting the computer (negative battery cable pull) solved the issue for about a week. Per discussion with others, and your posts, I feel I'm down to the VCT solenoids and/or cam phasers. I have also had a slight tick and rattle to the engine. I've always assumed it was shield or something and never paid it too much attention, now it sounds as though this may key in too?

If you don't mind let me know your end results, thank you for posting the previous info.

Pull the oil pan and make sure the thrust bearing is ok. Ford had a problem with them in 07 causing low oil pressure. Min hot oil pressure at idle is 25psi. It can also cause the crank sensor tone ring to walk away from the sensor setting the p0345 code.

07 with 138,000. Same idle issues, was going to change VCT solenoids, then phasers and timing set if needed. Pulled oil pan and found one thrust washer bent up in the bottom of pan. Thrust washer on back of engine was very chewed up, it fell out when I manually rotated the crank. over .07 endplay in crankshaft. Also one of the camshaft lobes very galled. I am sure it has an oil pressure problem so I am installing a reman engine.
