Hi, I have a 71 cab that has rust showing in the drip rails and the seams where the roof comes down at the back. I painted this years ago and did not see any rust then. I did have to replace the floor pans. In my area, rust is not common at the top of the body.
This cab is hard to get to because of the inner sheet metal. I hate to spend a lot of time if I can not halt the rust for good. I think most of it is where over-lapping panels meet. Any advice appreciated.
I have a 71 F-100 in shape like yours. Once the roof has started to go, so have the floors, cab corners, and cab mounts. I think it is easier and best in the long run to get a rust free cab and fix that up.
I think you are looking, at a minimum, at digging out the old seam sealer in the gutters, and removing the headliner.
Then ospho or por15 flooded into the hard to reach areas maybe?
The ospho is not too expensive if bought at a hardware store, but por 15 is close to a hundred bucks a gallon.
I'd have to agree that if you need serious metal work up there a cab swap may be easier.
