Heating Problem

New to the forum, but not to diesel trucks. Just a little background on this truck; 1999 early build F-250 superduty. I have replaced the thermostat, oil cooler (water in oil), and verified that the blend door works, and flushed the heater core. That being told, I don't have heat at idle, only at 1500 rpm or above. Also the dang thing has to get to operating temp before it will blow warm at all. I am thinking water pump, but before I spend $150 bucks, I would like to get a second opinion, or more. More info that I forgot, even when warm at Idle with the heater hose off the water pump it does not push water out unless you rev it up.

thanks in advance for any information, or advice.

Welcome to FTE.

It is sounding like it could be the water pump, but do you know what your EOT is when running down the road?

This is mostly a bump for you.

If fluid is not being pushed it would stand to reason that the impeller is slipping internally.I dont know if it could slip without it showing externally though at the pulley.

Not sure about temp, put a 195 thermostat in, and the guage is in the middle of the normal range. I want to get better guages, but short on extra $$$ right now. The reason that I am thinking the wp is bad is that I have changed them before, and seen that most of the fins were ate off.

Replace water pump earlier today. It seems better , but will still cool off at the vents considerably when at idle, and some times when running down the road. any suggestions??? Would really appreciate the help, as it is starting to get cold here at night and first thing in the morning.

Where did you get the thermostat? Are you sure it is a long shaft instead of a short shaft?

Not sure but I think is a long shaft. What difference would that make? I got the termostat at advance auto because the dealer didnt have one.
