I just installed the Bilstein leveling shocks on my 1 day old 2010 FX4. Compressing the coil springs was the worst part. It took me about 3 hours to do both sides. That includes waiting for my junk compressor to cool down so it would start again. The compressor probably added about an hour to the overall time. I would not try to compress the springs without a impact. It was quite a task.
One tip. Before you take the top ring with the rubber spring seat off take a small wood screw and put it into one of the tapered holes and screw it into the rubber. It will keep the spring seat aligned with the top ring and keep it from rotating. This saved me a ton of time on the second one and I had no issues with lining them back up.
The ride is better than the standard FX4 shocks. I compressed one of the stock ones on the work bench and it was pretty soft. The height is perfect at the top setting.
