I've been searching and see Mercon V is the juice to use but didn't see a prefered brand. How's the Walmart fluid? I see somethere are listed as a multi fluid and say Mercon V compatable but will that work or should I look for strictly Mercon V? I need to change the fluid here pretty soon. Thanks
Wal-mart carries the Vavoline Max Life, good stuff right there, Got it in mine. I'm sure the Wally's brand isn't bad but can't bring myself to using their fluids.
Have you checked your local Ford dealer? I couldn't believe it but mine had the best price so why not support them if they can compete plus you get the Motor-Craft Mercon V.
I use BG Products synthetic. Its not available over ther counter though. We use it at work for the trans flushes. If you found a local shop that is a BG user they may sell it to you.

I was thinking the same thing. I think Mercon V might be a trademarked term and under Motorcraft license. It's their brand or their specification or something like that. Every other trans fluid brand that I've looked at said "Mercon V compatible" or "meets Mercon V specs" etc.
Add to this the issue between Mercon III and Mercon V becoming backwards compatible, and things get even more confusing. Do a search here and you will find that lots of owners have found a brand they like and use with good/great results. I ended up going with Motorcraft because I think it's quality fluid and I know I can get more of it anywhere I go as long as there is a dealership nearby. If I were to switch to a different brand, I may not be able to find it later if I need some more for whatever reason.
The one thing that still confuses me is the synthetic vs. syn/blend vs. non-synthetic fluid. I mean, isn't all trans fluid a synthetic of some sort anyway? Does anyone make trans fluid that has a petroleum base?
Anyway, the Motorcraft Mercon V might be reasonably priced from your dealer if you check.
