Hey guys, I have an '01 f250 sd with the 5.4. I'm looking over my exhaust for replacement of rusted, worn and undersized parts. What I've noticed is I dont seem to have any egr tubes, egr valve or dpfe anywhere in the system. Could this be factory? I have checked a bit online and heard very brief mention of non-egr engines, is this a rare thing?
Over 8500lbs GVWR vehicles, before 2007, did not need an EGR. Certain California emissions-equipped vehicles DID. And 1999 F-series did, for whatever reason.
Although even those trucks with EGR aren't exactly "OBD-II compliant", being only "OBD-I".
The key is if you have an O2 sensor after the catalytic converter, it's fully OBD-II and most likely a California-emissions truck.
My 04' and my dads 03' 6.8l SDs has no EGR as did other MY as well. If you had an F-150 5.4l truck it would have EGR due to the lower GVWR as Krewat mentioned. You just found out you saved some money on replacement parts in the future.
