I have my block(C7ME-A) all torn down and I am going to perform the suggested oiling modifications that have been listen in the top oiler modifications posts. All of the access holes for the oil galleries have plugs in them that are labelled 7/16, but upon removal I realized that the main oil gallery is only 3/8. So I plan on drilling out that gallery to 7/16. My question is on the safety of this, because the main oil gallery isn't drilled straight though. It appears to be drilled from either end and the two holes meet in the middle to form one passage. If I attempt to slide a 3/8 rod through the passage it won't go all the way through, and if I slide it in from the other side, it stops right where the other side stopped. It is between lifter gallery holes, so I know it isn't getting hung on those. Anyway, seeing that the majority of the holes on the FE blocks are way off center, am I risking breaking through if I drill them out?
You should have no problems breaking through. Some people even go 1/2" but some have run into problems there. You will have to drill it from both sides as it is not a straight through shot.
Ratsmoker is right, Ford drilled out the main gallery from both sides and they meet in the middle but as in your case, sometimes they didn't meet exactly head on.
Don't worry about breaking out but I'd open it up to 7/16" the same way, from both sides and meet in the middle.
