From my understanding on the subject though my friend who runs an auto parts store.
Most of your "auto part discount" brand oils are Re-Refined oils.
So, all your super cheepie stuff at the dollar store, your advanced and autozone oils and such.
If you pour them, you'll always notice that they are darker than fresh oil.
Valvoleene makes NAPA's, you can confirm that with the manufacture address on the bottles.
Always gotta look for the name brand in disguise. Which happens quite often if you look.
Lots of times its just the same oil from one company with different names on it, even name brands.
Just like gasoleene all comes from the same hub before it goes to the station. The only differences is the additives the companies put in for that station before its put into the tanker.
I still don't think I would ever use it in my truck but the key words they said in the video was that the re-refining process creates motor oil base, not true oil, and then they add extra compounds to make motor oil. So I think I would use it in a car and lawn mowers.
Ryan. read up on amsoil and shaeffers.
They constantly talk about "base" oils.
Motor oil comes from some sorta base, and then they add stuff in on top of that to increase lubricity, reduce aeration and other such things.
Far more than any of us ever truly need to know.
The oil your using in your truck could come from that plant they talk about in the video down in chicago.
I really wish we could all use great oil in our trucks, but none of us can afford schaeffers and AMSoil all the time.
From what I know about the company I would think about 100 times before using any of their products. They provide a service that is very important to many. But like many large corporations they have cut themselves rich in the past decade. The reality seems much different than the squeaky clean good guys they portray themselves to be. At least thats what I've read about them.
