One Quick Pickup

Once a bit taboo among drag racers, pickups have become incredibly popular platforms in recent years - largely thanks to advances in suspension technology. Gone are the days when one simply couldn't make a pickup hook, as we routinely come across some seriously quick examples of those utilitarian vehicles at the track. The latest - and certainly coolest - is this, a twin turbocharged 1971 Ford F-100 recently featured in a clip from 1320 Video.

Not Subtle

Owned by a fellow named Ryan, this F-100 is, if nothing else, not exactly subtle. But that's to be expected for a pickup that sits inches off the ground, wears its patina with pride, and lacks a hood - for good reason. Of course, Ryan does have a hood for his pickup, but we can see why he likes to leave it off and let those massive turbos hang out for the world to see.

Stripped Down

The turbos are mated to a massive, 585 cubic-inch Ford-based V8, and it's running on alcohol, to boot. Despite the fact that this truck still wears its steel body and full glass, it only weighs around 2,900 pounds due to the fact that it's been stripped of all of those unnecessary parts, meaning that, well, it's awfully quick.

First Win

Nicknamed "Uncle Jesse" as a nod to the Dukes of Hazard, this vintage F-100 is still in the figuring-out stage, though it's already making some noise in no prep competition. In fact, on this particular night, it managed to take down a built S10 with no problem even though its owner had to pull a ton of power out of it to hook.

Getting Loose

Regardless, this is still an impressive result for what was just the fifth pass for this build since it was completed. On the second pass of the night, Ryan managed to once again pilot his F-100 to victory against a newer Chevy pickup, even after getting a little loose at the top end.

Another One

In the semi-finals, the F-100 once again nabs victory - this time, in a close contest against yet another Chevy S10. Thus, it's time to head to the finals to race another S10 - this one, running an old small block and not some newfangled LS or big block, interestingly enough.

Disappointing Finish

Unfortunately for Ryan, when the light turns green, he's caught sitting there, helplessly watching the S10 rocket ahead to victory. Turns out, Ryan simply hit the wrong button, dooming him before the race even began. Regardless, there's a ton of potential with this F-100, and given how raw it still is, we only imagine that the best is yet to come.
