Would You Rather, F-150 Edition: Roush or Raptor?
If you had to pick your perfect F-150, would it have a raging Roush package, or would it be a rockin’ Raptor? Decisions, decisions…
We’d love to have problems like Steve Cook. The YouTube star and fitness pro needs a new truck. He’s been driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee, but he’s decided that now he needs a Ford truck upgrade. And he knows exactly what he wants, well, basically. He wants an off-road capable truck that is badass, but that can deliver on towing–in particular, towing his boat. He’s narrowed it down to two trucks: A Ford F-150 with the Roush Performance package, and a Ford Raptor. And lets be honest, either way he walks away with a new F-150, so this is basically a win-win.
In his latest video, Cook puts the two trucks side-by-side, and compares their many attributes. Focusing on price, towing, and interior, he talks about what makes both of these F-150s contenders. Both trucks look sleek, aggressive, and bad to the bone. Both have sexy blacked-out grilles with honeycomb. Both look fierce and perform like beasts on and off-road. Cook notes that the F-150 Roush is taller than the Raptor, however the Raptor is 6″ wider. Both deliver the heat under the hood. The F-150 Roush Performance has the advantage here with that formidable 5.0L V8 engine. But the Ford Raptor is certainly packing a serious punch, and delivers 450 hp with its twin-turbo V6. Ultimately, Cook is going to have to take these sweet rides out on the road to see who has the giddy up he’s looking for. Nice work if you can get it.
Cook takes the 2017 Raptor for a drive first. The exterior shines, and definitely is everything Cook wants for an off-roading rig. But he wonders if many Raptor owners really do serious off-roading after paying so much for their ride. Cook likes the Raptor on the road, but he has one final, and very important test: Will it fit through the Chick-Fil-A drive-thru? It does, and so the gauntlet has been thrown down.
Next up is the 2018 Ford F-150 with Roush Performance package. Cook is especially impressed by the Mickey Thompson tires, the beefy bumper, and the LED lights that come with this Lariat trim. After testing it on the road and really feeling the Roush Performance in motion, he’s once again got a serious factor to consider: Will it fit in the In-n-Out Burger drive-thru? Yes, it passes this important test with aplomb.
We won’t spoil which truck Cook ultimately picks, but do check out the video for a fun test drive. Either way, when you’re choosing between an F-150 Roush and Raptor, can you really go wrong?
