Hot Rod Lincoln or What the Heck is a Beatnik Bubbletop?
I’m not exactly sure where to start with this next car. Is it a GM or is it a Ford. It features parts from both companies equally, and is one of the strangest and coolest custom hot rods I’ve ever seen. But again, I have no idea where to start with it. It’s called the Beatnik Bubbletop, and it’s going up for auction this weekend at Auctions American Santa Monica Auction.
The car was created by Gary “Chopit” Fioto, and uses a chassis from a 1988 Lincoln Town Car, a 350 Chevy small block, a front bumper from a 1959 Cadillac, a rear from a 1958 Cadillac, and finned taillights from a 1960s Chrysler. It’s an abomination essentially, but you can’t deny it’s unbelievably cool.
It was modeled after many of the art deco cars of the 40s and features so many personal touches, it would take three years to go through them all. It also has air conditioning, because when you are essentially in a giant dome, things tend to get hot. The car is expected to sell for around $200,000.
