The 5.0 is back for Mustang. The 2011 Ford Mustang GT arrives with an all-new advanced 5.0 liter V-8 engine that packs more than 400 horsepower. Dave Pericak, Mustang Chief Engineer, would not talk about their zero to 60 times, but he did say…

Cut #1:
"Brand new for 2011 we’ve added Brembo brakes. So the reason we did is because we want to make sure that with all the power we’ve put into this thing we can stop it. So we’ve got better brakes that resist fade and improve your stopping distance. Also married up with those brakes are brand new Pirelli summer tires, on 19" wheels, and this thing has great stopping power." :17 sec.
More power, better stopping power, but what about the mileage… Pericak says it’s better.
Cut #2:
"We’ve actually improved it… so what we’ve done is taken a brand new five liter engine it’s all aluminum, with TiVCT technology, or twin independent variable cam timing, that’s producing 412 horsepower, and 390 ft.lbs of torque, and married that up with a brand new six speed transmission, and we’ve also made some aerodynamics improvements in the vehicle, all of that together is going to give you a sports car that again produces 412 horse and gets 25 miles per gallon." :24 sec.
Pericak says the 2011 Mustang buyers will enjoy the benefits of a powerful engine as well as responsible fuel economy by designing a smoother underbody.
Cut #3:
"We’ve added an underbody aero shield, so we’ve closed off all of that so air will scoot underneath the vehicle. We’ve also closed off the gap between the radiator and the mating components, so that air does not get trapped in there. We’ve also added tire spats or wheel spats in the front of the rear wheels integrated to the rocker molding we have wheel spats that help us with aerodynamics and then where the rear glass meets the deck lid of the vehicle we’ve also sealed that off in their, so we’re stopping air from going place that we don’t want it to go, further improving the aerodynamics of this vehicle." :32 sec.
While power in a car like this is foremost, comfort and safety have also been enhanced.
Cut #4:
"We made some upgrades to the cluster for 2011, we’ve also added rear-head rests in this vehicle and they are deployable, you can push a button and move them out of the way, when you’re not using them for your rear passengers, we’ve also added integrated spotter mirrors, that allows you to see in the blind spot. We’ve also added MyKey so when parents, if parents allow their kids to drive this machine, they can control the speed the radio and everything like that to make sure they’re safe when they’re out there driving." :23 sec.
The car will be built in Flat Rock, Michigan and appear in showrooms come spring of 2010.
