Would You Restore or Rebuild This Classic Stock Bronco?
There’s really no wrong answer–two tone 1971 Bronco has the potential to make a solid ride as-is or as a restomod.
One thing we hear a lot from Ford fans is how well the classics hold up. Not just aesthetically–although let’s be clear, we love how a vintage Ford looks. But also physically. We have seen classic Fords–especially the Bronco–make amazing transformations. When we saw this stock 1971 first-generation Ford Bronco we started making little mods here and there in our mind. But after looking at the pictures up close we were especially struck but how cool the Bronco remained, just as it is.
So, we wondered: Would you restore this beauty, or make it a custom build?
The Bronco is currently for sale at Classic Ford Broncos. Now, the team at CFB have extensive experience building pretty badass custom Broncos; so we would definitely be tempted to put it in their very capable hands.
However, there is that issue of money. As in, to do it right, we’d need more of it.
And the current shape of the Bronco is pretty good. No, she’s not cherry. She’s got some well earned dings and rust, but overall a clean rig. Also, somehow, the mileage is really low at only 36,000 on the ticker.
It rides at the same factory lift it was given on the lines in 1971, and houses a 302 V8 mated to a three-speed transmission. Minimal creature comforts inside, but it is still rock solid and off-road ready.
Okay, “minimal” might be generous when referring to any amenities. But this Bronco was built for utility; it was built to be confidently and effortlessly cruising sandy beaches, or taking the path less traveled.
Honestly, we are more than a little compelled by CFB’s past builds. They have always struck a nice balance of keeping the spirit and character of the Bronco intact while adding to performance and comfort. And as a restomod, it is hard to imagine a cleaner Bronco to start with.
A period-correct Bronco restoration is timeless…and a more affordable option. Although we would keep the weathered elements such as the grille just as they are. Perfect testament to its years.
Really, it is just hard to go wrong with either choice. But sound off and let us know: Restore or rebuild?
