Popular Mechanics Celebrates 51 Coolest Trucks Ever
If you were to make a list of 51 of the greatest trucks ever, what would you have on it? The guys at Popular Mechanics devised a rather eclectic list of some of the coolest, baddest, and greatest trucks ever to be sold. Of course, there are some Ford trucks that made the list, but all of the major brands were represented. There are some though that we are disappointed to see missing. Here’s some of the Ford highlights.
1967-1977.5 Ford F-250 “Highboy”
When you picture a badass truck in your head, you probably conjure up a picture of a Highboy. I know I do! It’s one of the few trucks that you could attach 35″ tires to without having to lift the suspension. In fact, the Highboy suspension set the truck higher than the 3/4 ton truck offerings from Dodge, Chevrolet, and Jeep as well.
1971-1975 Ford Baja Bronco
Obviously, the Bronco needed to make the list. The Baja Bronco was a bit special, though. After the success of off-road racing, Bill Stroppe teamed up with Ford to offer the limited edition Baja Bronco. It came with special paint, they were designed to carry larger tires. They could even be optioned with a roll cage, better suspension, and a winch. In some ways, the Baja Bronco was a predecessor to the modern day Raptor.
What do you think of the list? Is there a truck you’d add, or a truck you don’t think is worthy of being the coolest truck of all time? Let us know in the forums!
