Ford’s Galaxy Can Prevent Speeding Tickets
For those of us that live in the United States, we really don’t know what MPVs are. Basically, they’re minivans, but they come in a variety of sizes. Today, Ford unveiled a new version of their big MPV, called the Galaxy, that has some interesting new features.
What could possibly be interesting about a minivan that doesn’t even have sliding doors? Well, the lies in the Intelligent Speed Limiter.
The Intelligent Speed Limiter uses a camera to scan roadsigns to see what the current speed limit is, and whether it’s okay to overtake. If the system is engaged by the driver, the car’s maximum speed is set to the speed limit in the current section of road. If the speed limit increases or decreases, the car’s top speed changes accordingly.
This is all controlled through throttle manipulation, and not through using the brakes. If going downhill and the car exceeds the posted speed limit, a warning alert will sound.
If you do need to give the car a bit of throttle and exceed the speed limit, simply pressing down on the gas pedal overrides the system.
In addition, the Galaxy can be equipped with massaging seats and everything you’d expect in a Titanium-trimmed Ford vehicle. But in places where speed cameras are used, having a car control your top speed could be a helpful way to avoid getting a citation.
