Ford Super Duty Struck by Lightning, Entire Cab Evaporated
Some recent storms caused heavy damage on the east coast, but this poor Ford Super Duty took the brunt of it.
We’ve seen the damage that lightning can do on many occasions over the years, whether that be to structures or even vehicles like the Ford Super Duty. Obviously, it’s not something to mess with, and some severe storms in South Carolina recently caused damage to a number of homes. But it also nearly destroyed this Ford Super Duty pickup, which essentially saw its entire cab evaporated after lightning struck a nearby tree and set it on fire, as we can see in this post from Explore Beaufort showing photos taken by Kristi Hughes Groover.
According to the post, during some severe storms the area suffered recently, lightning struck a tree next to the parked pickup (which thankfully had no one inside) and proceeded to travel down the tree and hit the truck. That was enough to set the Super Duty on fire, and its cab obviously burned to a crisp before the fire could be put out. Groover notes that the owner of the truck is a cabinet installer, who was seemingly working in the house the truck was parked in front of.
That person will now be looking for a new Super Duty to replace the, well, pretty new Super Duty seen in these photos, as the entire cab is pretty much gone. Interestingly enough, the front end and bed escaped virtually unscathed, leaving a rather bizarre sight that obviously attracted quite a bit of attention on the island, and it will continue to do so thanks to these pictures.
While we’ve often been told that being inside a vehicle is usually a good place to be during a lightning storm, we’ve also seen some rare instances where it’s not. That includes lightning going through a truck’s windshield not terribly long ago, leaving damage on the interior, as well as this particular Super Duty, which burned to a crisp. Regardless, these incidents serve as a reminder that heading inside some sort of structure is probably a better bet, if possible.
