How a Ford Model A & T Became Loved Family Members
Our love affair with four wheeled-machines has existed from the day they were created, but for the first generation of men and women that saw these technical and engineering marvels come to life, the love must’ve been much deeper and special. Such is the case of this story shared to Hemmings Daily by David Lowry of Plymouth, Massachusetts.
David describes his grand father as a real Ford man, as well as a smart and very practical head of household. He owned a laundry business in Pasadena, California, and his entrusted his business transportation to the 1920 Model T C-Cab you can see pictured above, complete with business signage. His happy relationship with Ford led to the purchase of yet another blue oval vehicle, but this time one much more family friendly—a 1929 Model A Town Sedan.
The years went by and David’s grandfather finally retired from the business, at which time he sold the 190 Model T C-Cab, but kept the Model A, which he described as comfortable, practical, and full of family memories. He goes on to say that when the first war came, cars weren’t available, due to the allocation of raw supplies for plane, tank and weapon manufacturing. Once the war ended and vehicles were available again, his grand father hardly found any reasons to sell the Model A; as the kids had grown to love riding on its running boards every time he arrived home. Plus, both his daughters and at least one grandkid learned to drive on that car.
In what’s a really touching gesture, once David went off to college in 1955, his grand father would occasionally loan him the sedan, much to the envy of his classmates. Later on in life, in 1963, at age 93, his grand father passed away and the Model A Town Sedan was sold as part of his estate.
Talk about spending an entire life with Ford…
