Faith in Ford: Kentucky Truck Plant Worker Shares Why Working at Ford Is a Blessing
Behind-the-scenes look at Kentucky Truck Plant shows why the people that build Ford trucks have as much passion as the owners.
Ford’s Kentucky Truck Plant builds the Super Duty and Terrance May is one of the men that work there. May was featured recently in a video posted to the Ford Motor Company YouTube channel. The video was part of the “From the Floor” series. This series of videos has Ford CEO Jim Farley visiting various factories and talking to the men and women on the floor to get their unique stories. May has a unique story to share, but in some ways, it is also a common story. He is unique in that outside of his work at Ford he serves as a chaplain and minister. His story is common in that he decided to work for Ford at a young age because he came from a Ford family. Many of you reading this have likely also come from a Ford family.
It is often said that a happy worker is a productive worker. So, it is always in the best interest of a company to keep workers happy. May is not only happy to be working for Ford but he feels downright blessed. How so? Because this opportunity provides a good living for himself and his family. The same sort of living he saw Ford providing for his uncle when he was growing up. May also feels that working at Ford allows him to share his faith with his follow coworkers and be who he is. That makes him happy, it makes him proud, and it means that he will do all he can to ensure that Kentucky Truck Plant builds a safe and quality truck.
Family Connection
May knew at age 19 that he wanted to work at Ford. We should all be that lucky to know exactly what we want at such a young age. But he saw the type of life his uncle was able to have thanks to working at Ford and that was his inspiration. Now that May is a Ford man himself, he can take pride in seeing his own family grow and flourish. It means so much to him that he actually gets emotional in the video when he talks about it. Working for Ford really means that much to him.
Workers and Buyers
May works at Ford but most folks that buy Ford trucks don’t. Yet many share a common thread. That common thread is coming from a Ford family. There are thousands of Ford truck owners today that own a Ford because that is what their dad always owned. Or their grandfather. Maybe it was a cousin or an aunt. But a lot of Ford owners today have family to thank for getting them exposed to Ford. And once someone buys into the Ford family, they rarely leave.
Pride
Obviously, we love Ford trucks. But seeing a story like this one makes a connection on a level deeper than just aluminum, rubber, and glass. Knowing that there are people in Ford factories that are this enthusiastic about working for Ford makes us appreciate the truck and the company even more. If the worker feels honored and blessed to help build the truck. Then how can we not feel honored and blessed to drive it?
