F-250 Owner Seeks Bump Stop Information

Ford F-250

Upgraded suspension bits of the F-250 call for adjustments to the bump stops, but the OP can’t locate them.

Ford Truck Enthusiasts forums member “DieselVol” recently posted a thread in the 1999 to 2016 Super Duty section asking for input on the bump stops for his Ford F-250. He is looking to upgrade the suspension setup and the instructions for the new components state that he has to adjust the bump stops, but his truck doesn’t seem to have any, so he came to the forum for input. Not surprisingly, he got the answer to his question in a hurry.

The Introduction

When the OP first posted his question to the forum, he offered a brief rundown of what he was doing, which led to his needing input on where to locate the bump stops in his truck. The black F-250 shown here is the OP’s profile picture, so we don’t know for sure that this is the truck being modified, but we included a picture here for reference.

“Do the coil spring trucks (2005-2007) have front bump stops? I’m having trouble finding them if they do. I’m thinking about adding a dual steering stabilizer and Superlift says I may need to “slightly limit the compression travel with bump stops”. I assumed I’d need to get taller bump stops. Now I can’t find that the truck has ever them or that anybody makes an aftermarket version that’s taller. Any advice? Thanks.”

The Community Responds

The first person to respond to the initial question was “seville009”, who shared pictures of the bump stop on his 2006 F-350.

They do…..drivers side of my stock 2006 F350….view from both sides of driver side tire

Surprisingly, the OP questioned that information at first.

That looks aftermarket to me. I think I saw one just like it on line. It also looks like it doesn’t have a natural place to bump into. I suspect it’s there because of a problem, rather than stock. I could be wrong.

Leading seville009 to restate some information.

You are wrong. I’m the original owner…..it’s stock as I said. It bumps into the axle if it comes up too much, hence “bump stop”

Upon further inspection, the OP found the spot where his bump stops were originally located, but the rubber portion has fallen away, as shown in the picture below.

Well (hat in hand) I stand corrected! Here’s a picture of where mine used to be. That flat surface just below is it’s landing pad. It’s maybe 6×6” or so, plenty of space to do a good job. There’s another similar one (equally trashed) on the other side. So now that you’ve squared me away (and helped greatly, thanks) the question changes: why is there not a readily available replacement part for this? Nobody I’ve found thus far make any front bump stop for the coil springed trucks. The 99-04 (leaf spring) bump stops are made by several companies. Have I missed something?

While “sxrfun” shared information on aftermarket bump stops that might be just what the OP was hoping to find.

Search for Timbren ses suspension parts…..I use them in the rear of my truck…think they also make them for the front for snowplows etc.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
