Avoid Work by Building Coyote-Powered Urban Warrior Luxury SUVs
Online car building machines are like video games. You sit down by yourself, you think, “ehh, maybe I’ll play for 20 minutes,” then next thing you look up, and it’s 4 a.m. and you have 38 missed text messages on your phone. Even if you know they’re make-believe, they’re so fun, and they can suck you in for hours. Some of our more recent obsessions are the Ford GT and the wild assault-lookin’ luxury SUVs known as Urban Warriors.
The limited-edition custom-built machines are still just babies. The company was launched by Sean Hyland Motorsport a couple years ago. The Urban Warriors are based on Defender 110s with Ford 5.0 Coyote V8s stuffed in them. That engine produces 420 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque to start, but there are two supercharged engine upgrades: One that’ll get you to 605 horsepower for $10,000, or a 700 horsepower version for $16,000. You can link that to a 6-speed manual transmission for no extra cost or an automatic for $3,000 more. That’s just the nose of the options available for these things, and the automatic price updates make building them equally terrifying and exciting at the same time.
You can get them in four-, five-, seven-, or nine-seat set ups. Many of the styling options come from noted Defender builder Kahn Design, but there are all sorts of goodies you can order like Alcantara, carbon fiber, climate control packages, armor, various wheel options, or extra off-road packages.
