Ford F1000

Though you might see an F-150 or Ranger anywhere you go, these five Ford trucks and SUVs are (or were) forbidden fruit Stateside.

Around the world, there’s always a Ford truck or SUV working and playing hard. You’ll most likely come across an F-150 (or Lobo, if in Mexico), followed by the Ranger (which returned home in 2019). Familiar faces are always a welcome sight, especially those we know straight from Dearborn.

And then, there are those with a Blue Oval you haven’t seen before, at least not in the United States. You might even wonder why you can’t just buy one yourself. Thus, these are the five Ford trucks and SUVs you either can’t buy right now in the U.S., or couldn’t back in the day.

Falcon Ute

Ford Falcon Ute

Let us begin with a toast to the “Last of the V8 Interceptors.” While the sands of time swept over the Ranchero at the end of the Seventies, the Falcon Ute carried the torch Down Under until the same sands claimed it in 2017. Though the utes from the mid-1990s are now available for import, it’ll be until 2042 before the final Falcons can fly from the shores of Sydney to the land of the eagle.

Cameron Aubernon's path to automotive journalism began in the early New '10s. Back then, a friend of hers thought she was an independent fashion blogger.

Aubernon wasn't, so she became one, covering fashion in her own way for the next few years.

From there, she's written for: Louisville.com/Louisville Magazine, Insider Louisville, The Voice-Tribune/The Voice, TOPS Louisville, Jeffersontown Magazine, Dispatches Europe, The Truth About Cars, Automotive News, Yahoo Autos, RideApart, Hagerty, and Street Trucks.

Aubernon also served as the editor-in-chief of a short-lived online society publication in Louisville, Kentucky, interned at the city's NPR affiliate, WFPL-FM, and was the de facto publicist-in-residence for a communal art space near the University of Louisville.

Aubernon is a member of the International Motor Press Association, and the Washington Automotive Press Association.
