1953 Ford F-100 Twisted Turtle

Mud-slinging old school 1953 Ford mudder uses blown 540 to teach the young ‘uns a lesson.

One reason (among many) that we love Ford trucks is how these bad boys just keep on going. Case in point, meet “The Twisted Turtle.” This 1953 Ford F-100 may be an unlikely choice to race, jump, and tear through the mud; but it is simply amazing. However, unlike the story, this turtle is considerably less “slow and steady ” and more like a bat outta’ hell.

Mud Stamp Films recently featured the killer classic Ford crushing it at mudding events. We were drawn in by the classic fat fender 1953 Ford F-100’s style; and then we saw it rip. It is Muddy Monday perfection, and a great way to start the week.

There’s a lot that makes “The Twisted Turtle” undeniably appealing. It is always fun to see a classic American truck. But is especially a delight watching a 68-year old, second-generation F-100 fly through the slop with unabashed glee.

Ford’s second-generation F-series trucks earned the name “fat fender” or “Effies.” And the Twisted Turtle uses that beefy stance to its advantage. Even with his thick tires and hefty custom suspension, the F-100 remains surprisingly spry and nimble. Which is impressive given how much dirt, water, mud, and terrain just keeps throwing more ins way. Hey, not a problem for this old timer who bears down and takes it all down.

Custom built to handle the bog, it still retains the patina. Which might be hard to see, considering how the Turtle dives right in (and flies above) the mess.

It has come a long way from the flathead 8 that came on the 1953 F-100. Under the hood there is an alcohol-fed big block topped with a blower. We don’t know the specs, but we can certainly see them. This Ford is fast and backed with a serious backbone. Clearly it has a serious amount of torque. You can feel those horses as it shreds; and the full, throaty growl gives the muddy monster a appropriately menacing soundtrack.

And we threw in a bonus video, because we just love this truck!
