The Ford F250 Super Crew 4 x 4 Pirelli Scorpion STR A is a premium highway all-season tire with above average quality. Scorpion STR A’s are intended for use on light trucks, crossover, and sport utility vehicles and considered to be highway, all-season tires.

Characteristics of the Pirelli Scorpion STR A

Pirelli Scorpion STR A tires provide year-round traction, a quiet and comfortable ride, easy handling, stability, high-tensile steel belts reinforced with polyamide for durability and a two-ply polyester cord for a comfortable ride. These tires are Original Equipment (OE) for the Ford F250, but are also sold in sets of four or axle pairs to owners that drive vehicles that are equal in load range, overall vehicle weight, speed rating stipulations, and they match the necessary tire size of the original tire.  

There are two versions of the Scorpion; the STR A manufactured for North America with more even-wear capability; and the STR, featuring a European tread pattern with wider grooves for better hydroplaning resistance.

Probable road and driving conditions are also considered when using Pirelli Scorpion STR A tires. These tires can handle driving conditions in light snow, and are somewhat recommended for more adverse weather circumstances.

The Pirelli Scorpion STR A tire range in weight from 23 to 49 pounds and have a maximum load capacity of 1521 to 2997 pounds. The price of each tire ranges from $91.00 to $255.00, depending on the specifications.

Pirelli Scorpion STR A Warranty

The tread life warranty on the Pirelli Scorpion STR A is 65,000 miles (P-metric tires) and is excluded from the Eurometric and LT sizes. The uniformity warranty covers the first 2/32″ of wear. The Pirelli Scorpion STR A offers no manufacturer Road Hazard Warranty but may be available for an additional fee. However the Workmanship and Material Warranty is valid for an unlimited time and offers free replacement the first year or 25% of the tread. The Pirelli Scorpion STR A warranty received a 4 (out of 4) rating.

Pirelli Scorpion STR A Review

Sixty percent of the people surveyed at TireRack.com online survey stated that they would “possibly” purchase this tire again.  Although touted with an “aggressive tread pattern” for better on and off road traction, the tire tread wear scored a 6.7 (out of 10), which is considered “excellent.” The hydroplaning resistance and wet traction scored a 7.6 and 7.8, respectfully (out of 10), which is in the “excellent” range. These tires sport continuous shoulder ribs and narrower grooves between the independent tread blocks for a quiet ride. As far as light snow traction and deep snow traction, the Pirelli Scorpion STR A scored 7.0 and 6.3, respectfully.

Cornering stability and tire tread on the Pirelli Scorpion STR A scored a 7.9 and 6.7, which are considered excellent. Also in the excellent category, the Pirelli Scorpion STR A scored an impressive 8.3 for dry traction, a 7.7 in steering response, a 7.2 for noise comfort and a 7.5 for ride comfort.

Overall, the Scorpion STR A, is considered to be an above average tire and did not score unacceptable (0-2.5), fair (2.6-4.5) or superior (8.6-10) in any of the 12 categories surveyed. Out of the 71 tires that were graded and surveyed the Pirelli Scorpion STR A scored 7.3 out of 8.9 and ranked number 22.
