Riding on air bags and nearly blacked-out, Ranchero ready to haul it down the highway with 351 V8 power under the long hood.

There was once a day where you could visit your local Ford dealership to find the right truck for the job. The hardest work, of course, went to the L-Series line of big rigs. Lighter jobs fell upon the beds of the F-Series. There was even the Courier, made for tight spaces and tiny loads.

However, if you were looking for a rig with plenty of muscle, the Ranchero was the ticket. The ute not only handled the business in the bed, it also delivered the pain to many a competitor on the drag strip. This ’73 Ranchero 500 is such an example.

The current owner bought this black stallion from a previous owner who did the work of blacking-out the Ranchero. The only bits of non-black left outside are the door handles, and the full set of 16-inch Magnum 500 wheels. Along with the air suspension, this slammed ute looks menacing parked along Main Street.

The monochrome theme continues inside, where the bench is covered in black and gray vinyl. The door panels, too, receive the two-tone treatment, while the black dash and gray carpet tie it all together. The window cranks and door sills and handles are the only bits of chrome left within. And of course, the windows are tinted for maximum darkness.

A black Ranchero like this needs to not only look the part, but act the part, too. Under the long hood is a 351 V8, which replaced the ute’s original 400 some time before the current owner got a hold of it. We don’t know how much power it makes, but we think it’s got plenty of ponies to haul all the ass down the road.
