6 Surprisingly Fast Factory Ford Trucks

People don't necessarily buy Ford trucks because they're fast, but you might be surprised at how quickly these can get to where you are going.

1. 2017 F-150 3.5 Ecoboost

Many old school guys still moan about the lack of big V8 engines in trucks these days, but it's hard to argue with sales numbers, rated fuel economy, and acceleration data. Ford's latest generation of 3.5 liter Ecoboost powered F-150 is pretty darn fast, thanks to 375 hp and 47- lb-ft of torque. A Supercrew truck equipped with the latest version of the turbocharged six cylinder engine and the new 10-speed automatic transmission will go 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds and complete the quarter mile in 15.4 seconds, according to Car and Driver.

2. 2010-16 F-150 Raptor 6.2 liter

The first generation Raptor still used a snarling 6.2 liter V8 producing 411 hp and 434 lb-ft of torque, unlike the Ecoboost V6 in the current version. Even though the original Raptor is down on power and up on weight (6,100 pounds) versus the new one, it's still a formidably fast vehicle by any measure, with 0-60 happening in 6.7 seconds, and the quarter mile flying by in 15.3 seconds.

3. 2002-03 F-150 Harley-Davidson Edition

Ford produced the Harley-Davidson Edition F-150 starting in 2000, but in 2002 it received a nice little boost in power from a slightly detuned Lightning supercharged 5.4 liter V8. That led to a 0-60 time of 6.2 seconds and a 14.6 second quarter mile, meaning that this truck was much more than just another appearance package.

4. 2014 F-150 Tremor

The F-150 Tremor was Ford's attempt at building yet another fast special edition truck street truck liek the Lightning. Unlike the SVT Lightning and Raptor, however, the Tremor used an Ecoboost V6 for power in place of the tried and true V8. The 3.5 liter turbo V6 was the same one avaialble in the crew cab trucks, yet its 365 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque was pretty stout in a regular cab F-150. Add in 4.10:1 gears with an electronic locking differential, and the Tremor proved to be quite fast for a 5,348 pound vehicle - running 0-60 in only 5.8 seconds and completing the quarter mile in 14.3 seconds. Unfortunately, it was also a one hit wonder, with production beginning and ending in the 2014 model year.

5. 2001-2004 SVT Lightning

When Ford brought back the Lightning in 1999, it did so with a supercharged 5.4 liter V8 producing 360 horsepower, but in 2001 they tweaked it further. That year they added a larger mass airflow meter, freer flowing intake manifold, and larger fender intake opening, which increased horsepower to 380. The result was an impressive 5.2 second 0-60 run and 13.8 second quarter mile time.

6. 2017 F-150 Raptor

The Raptor might be a purpose built off-road vehicle, but it also makes a pretty impressive on road performer as well. Under that wide hood lies a twin turbocharged, intercooled 3.5 liter V6 producing 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. That means that despite its 5,696 pound curb weight and mud tires, it's incredibly fast. 0-60 takes only 5.0 second flat, and the quarter mile blazes by in 13.7 seconds. Imagine what a new generation of Tremor or Lightning with that motor in a lighter street truck could do!
