The tow hook is just what it sounds like: a hook to secure your truck to a towline. There are also tow loops which are oval or rectangle shaped. Many drivers prefer to install tow hooks to both the front and rear of their truck for when pulling someone out, or getting pulled out yourself.

Reviewing these three brands was an interesting task. Tow hooks are about as fundamental as it gets. Forged steel. Bolts on. Available in different finishes. The three being reviewed here all will hold up to 10,000 pounds of towing. As with many things in life, the best buy is balanced by want you want to pay and what you want to get.

Curt

The Curt Tow Hook can be purchased just as the hook ($9.00 or less) or as a complete "kit" that includes bolts, nuts, and washers ($17.00 or less). The price varies on whether you buy it online from Curt, from Amazon, or on E-Bay. The tow hook comes in black (Part #22411) or with a chrome finish (Part #22401).

Draw Tite

The Draw Tite hook is forged steel. Also able to handle a 10,000 pound GVW tow. the price of this tow hook, depending on where you buy it, goes from $8.00 to $20.00. Like the Curt tow hook, The Draw Tite comes in black (Part #63030) and chrome (Part # 63029).

Reese

Our last tow hook is made by Reese. Reese makes some very large tow hooks capable of towing much more than 10,000 lbs GVW. Just like the other brands, this tow hook is rated for a 10,000 lb. GVW and is made from forged steel. The price of the Reese Tow Hook in black (Part #74604) varies by retailer and online site. The prices we found went from about $9.00 to about $16.00.

All three brands offer very similar products. All are made of forged steel, all are rated at 10,000 lbs GVW, and all are priced similarly. A little online shopping will find you the best price. It may boil down to which one costs less to ship.

Pro Tip

Always follow the manufacturers directions and recommendations for installation. Even though each tow hook has a 10,000 lb GVW capacity, check your F-150 Owner's Manual for the towing capacity of your vehicle.
