Ford F-150/F-250: How to Reprogram My Key FOB

If your Ford truck is locked and your key FOB's not working, you are getting nowhere fast. You could call roadside service or get a ride to Ford, which will charge you an arm and a leg. Or you can read on and fix it yourself.

This article applies to the Ford F-150 (2004-2014) ,F-250, and F-350 Super Duty (2005-2014).

No one wants to unlock the door by inserting the key in the key hole anymore. Our Key FOB is an important luxury in our Ford F-150 or Super Duty. When it stops working, it can cost you $100 or more to have the dealership fix the issue. Here is how to reprogram the key yourself.

Step 1 - Open driver side door

Close all doors, then open your driver side door and press the unlock button on the drivers door while it's open.

Step 2 - Turn the ignition back and fourth

Turn the ignition from OFF to ON 8 times in 10 seconds, making sure to stop the eighth time on the "ON" position. Your door locks should lock and unlock to confirm that you're in programming mode.

Step 3 - Push any button

Within 8 seconds of your locks unlocking and locking, press any button on your remote to be reprogrammed. Your door locks will cycle again to confirm programming. If you have another remote that you want to reprogram, repeat the steps above for each one.

Step 4 - Turn the ignition to OFF

Turn the ignition to the OFF position. Your locks will cycle another time to indicate the end of programming mode.
