Rear View Mirror Removal on 2015

I went to get my front window tinted and the place didn't have the "tool" to remove the rear view mirror and they did not want to get very aggressive with the mallet in fear of breaking the windshield. Has anyone bene able to get any of the "home methods" to work? I contacted a couple of local auto window repair places and they said they wouldn't do it because the windshield "ALWAYS" breaks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

it snaps into place and not easy to do. I personally wouldn't tint the windshield. Everyone complains that the headlights aren't bright enough then you want to make the windshield darker. I just had my windshield replaced because it was broken and he used a mallet to remove it. dangerous on a perfectly good windshield.

I am having retrofit HID's built for better lighting and the windshield tint is prescribed by my neurologist to help with my migraines. I was able to remove the mirror on my 05 rather easily when I had the windshield tinted and this one although it looks similar is not coming off as easily as the 05.

If you are talking about the metal tab glued to the windshield here is a method I used once. Lock a small pair of Vice grips onto the metal tab then start heating the tab with a blow dryer. As you heat the tab try to twist it. TAKE YOUR TIME! I was a nervous wreck trying to do it but I just went slow and kept trying to twist until it finally just popped off. You want to twist, not pull. Keep in mind it was warm outside too so I most definitely wouldn't do this to a cold window.

I may try this method and take the metal tab off with the mirror assembly then just glue it back on after the tint has been installed. Thanks!

I suffer from chronic migraines and wear sunglasses, during the day.
A lot cheaper than a window tint.
