Vibration from Tranny shifter!
What's up guys!! It's been a while. I picked up a 78 F150 SWB Inline 6 300 with a 4-speed manual tranny. I've done a bunch of work to this ole gal to get it back on road. I've been getting a loud vibration coming from shifter last couple of days only at acceleration. Neutral is fine and low RPM's seem to be ok?? Any tips would help. Can you help me locate fill plug on tranny also? Thanks for the help!

If it's the RUG SR-OD Single Rail 4 Speed Overdrive, the shift lever mounts to a bracket on the side of the trans case.
HIO: M/T flywheels have replaceable ring gears, A/T flexplates do not.

Thanks for the replies. Not sure which tranny it is to be honest. I've always had auto tranny. I broke down and took it on to the shop. Not sure I'm capable of a job that big. So far I've done water pump, alt, fuel pump, had drive shaft rebuilt, now this. We will see. I will update one it's diagnosed. Thanks again

When it cracks apart/disintegrates, this will cause the shift lever to vibrate.

I like your truck...looks like the same color as mine. You running 35s. Any lift? (yeah...I'm tire shopping and it kind of sucks)

On an externally balanced engine the balacer (damper) and the flywheel or flexplate have to be balanced against each other. If they're not it can cause issues ranging from an annoying vibration up to catastrophic failure. I don't know enough about the I-6s to know how they're balanced...I was mostly just throwing that out there hoping someone more knowledgable would expound on it or call BS.

Yes sir running 35's.... it has a 4 inch suspension lift. Thanks for the compliment, pretty cool color I think. Also thanks for the tip on the flywheel issues.

Yes sir sir it was the axle seal. It's both actually. I just went ahead and told my mechanic to replace all back brakes along with axle seals and wheel bearings

Gas n go mall crawler?
Broken or loose engine/trans/t case mount.
Blown axle seal or failed slave cylinder. Smell it. If sulphury it's an axle seal. If not, have fun replacing the wheel cylinder and bleeding your brakes.
Flex plates have replacable ring gears. Flywheels do not.
