Lost my SD today
So I found a truck that was ordered by my local dealer and it was perfect. Fully dressed Lariat with all the bells and whistles. I told my dealership that I wanted that truck as soon as it gets delivered, due date was 12/7. They wanted me to purchase the truck sight unseen. After my last visit to another dealer to look at what ended up being a beat up '17 Platinum whom the dealership blamed on transport people, there was no way I was going to commit to buying a truck without first inspecting and driving it. I offered to put a $1000 deposit to hold the vehicle but they said they don't do that at their location. long story short, they sold it to someone else who didn't mind rolling the dice . My sales man just called me today to inform me. I am really bummed as that was the perfect truck for me. I found one comparable but without the 5th wheel prep at another dealership 70 miles away. I see they have a nice Platinum too if i want to spend another 4-5k. Looks like I will be taking a drive in the morning. wish me luck.

Just a confirmation that the factory tow prep is really cool and worth waiting for. Much stronger than the B&W base that I used on my 2011. The B&W was awesome and everything but the Ford factory prep is awesomer. Depending on which hitch you end up with it is so much more compact than the in-bed or rail systems.

Exactly. I couldn't find any 2016's on the lot that were configured the way I wanted mine to be. So I figured that the only way to get exactly what I wanted was to put in an order. It's going to take some time get mine built (especially after it had to be reordered) but I won't have to play dealership games.

I'll be headed to San Diego in about an hour to hopefully bring home a '17 SD. By the time i decided to purchase the truck it was too late for me to order one from Ford. I want to take advantage of the write off for 2016.
The 5th wheel prep package was nice but in all reality it was more of a security blanket in the event that I someday go 5th wheel. I currently pull a 11k bumper pull toy hauler. Trailer is a year old and I have no plans of replacing her any time soon. Not to mention that if I do mount a 5th hitch I won't be able to use the truck to deliver pallets for work.
I'll post a pic later

I lost one on my journey too. It ended up costing me my TPO, TPMS/Camera add on, rear-seat belt upgrade, and heavy duty towing package. Fortunately I can add the TPMS/Camera -- and probably wouldn't ever use the TPO. The towing package just limits me in the future (or gives me an excuse to buy a new truck sooner rather than later.)
But the point is, in some markets, these trucks are in such high demand that if you find what you want, you'd better pull the trigger or you'll most likely lose it.
And for anyone who needs to get in under the 12/31 wire for tax reasons, ordering is not an option.

Yep. Ridiculous that these trucks cost more than my first house. I keep telling myself to take care of it and maximize resale.
I will say, the price I paid seems more worth it every day I own it. So it does get easier.
