Rebuilt, now to adjust?

Ok, I rebuilt my 4180-C this weekend and now don't have a clue where to start adjusting. Good news is that it does run. I did a dry-float adjustment, so the top of the float is parallel to the top of the housing (level). As far as I can tell, there are now three things I need to work on.
First: Choke - I just bolted the bi-metal coil back on - How do I align this or set it?
Second: Since I didn't remember to count the turns to contact on the idle ajust screws, I started at 2 full turns back out. Maybe why it's idling at about 1600 rpm.
Third: miscellaneous linkage adjustments.
Anyone know a good web site or can provide adequate instructions to someone who really doesn't know where to go from here?
By the way, I think it's throwing a lot of gas down, since I can smell it all over the vehicle. Didn't notice any leaks, but I'll check again tonight. Also, I do have to worry about emissions...which is why it was time to rebuild it.

Thanks!

hope you ended up getting this figured out, but for anybody else that needs this and jsut for kicks, here's an answer that came in waaaaaay too late.

1.) The choke needs to be set as mildly as possible, so I'd start at the point when it just starts to choke the engine, and if this won't keep it running at idle in the cold warm up times, then advance it a little until it does. this will keep you from running too much choke at idle and wasting gas.

2.) The engine idling at 1600 could easily be from the idle speed screw on the linkage being too engaged. This screw cracks the blades on the carb's primaries and needs to be set as light as possible. So back it off until the engine is idling at about 700, then try to adjust the idle mixture screws to true it out, and get the idle speed back up. When the idle speed BEGINS to increase, stop adding fuel. This is the right place to be for best idle mixture. You can do the same at 1000RPM, but it will burn a little more fuel. If you need to know where these adjustment screws are, Holley's website is a good resource.

Not to late. It was a little helpful to me. I have a '75 F350 with an Elderbrock Carb. I have always smelled gas when I've been driving for awhile. This is an RV so not a daily driver. I have replaced all the fuel lines ( hard and soft ). Also replaced filler tubes to both gas tanks.
So I'm thinking maybe the gas is to rich. I need some info on how to adjust the fuel mixture. I should probably start a new thread with more particulars about my carb. Runs good right now and getting ready to go on a trip. If the adjustment is easy I may even improve the MPG.
This pig gets about 7 to 9 mpg - 460 engine

Well I'm glad somebody got something out of it. I've been getting alot of crap for resurrecting threads. I've had an edelbrock and a few carter carbs. The carter is the exact same as the edelbrock, it was just manufactured before the Edelbrock came out. I think that Edelbrock's website has a diagram that notes where the idle mixture screw(s) are. If these guys don't give you more to help you out maybe that will.

I know this is an old thread . I was just skimming through some old threads with regards to my old '75 Rollalong. I just sold it and now I miss the beast sitting in my drive way greeting me every time I leave the house and return.
There is a big empty spot in my drive Now.
GOOD TIMES.
It was Just to heavy to haul my Jeep up and down the steep mountain grade.

the float setting should have been done with the float bowl inverted , go to the holley site general carburetor questions there you find the set up info you need
