over starting issues

I have a 1978/79 bronco with a 429 in it.

Having issues with the truck trying to continue to try and turn over once the key is disengaged. I have removed the solenoid from the inner fender, cleaned the mount surface, and reattached. I was told if this ground area was bad, the truck would do as described. Yet after doing this area, the truck just yesterday did the same thing again.
am I missing something?

Thank you.

you may have to pull the starter and have it tested. are you running headers? perhaps its getting to hot

How's the condition of the solenoid, is it the factory OE unit? Sounds like you're on the right track with the solenoid.

Next time that happens, lightly tap the top of the solenoid with the handle of a screwdriver and see if that helps.
You may end up replacing the solenoid, get the best one that you can afford.

Take a look here it's a good explanation of what's happening in situations like this.

Replaced already. I believe I was running the original. Yea, this may explain everything. Thank you for the link. Hopefully fixes issues and I will be back out on the trail this weekend.

update

Pulled the older unit solenoid, with a quality unit. Checked all wires, etc. The new, quality unit then did the same thing. :/

We left it hooked up, pulled the ignition lead wire from the solenoid, and it stopped cranking. Appears the ignition/key switch is the culprit here. Bummer, missed a weekend to go wheeling. Oh well, summer is not over yet.
