Transmission Overdrive Problem
Hey Guys,
I am having some sort of transmission issue. I was driving my truck, in overdrive, and I downshifted into 2nd gear when going down a hill to engine break. I was going about 45 mph. When I go to the bottom of the hill I hit the gas and the rpm gauge just went up, no power to rear wheels. I pulled over shut the truck off and started back on my way. I accelerated through first gear and second gear, and once it was going to shift into third the rpm gauge just shot up again and no power to rear wheels. Again I pulled the truck over and shut it off, started it up and turn overdrive off. This time I had absolutely no problems, it runs perfectly fine. There are no codes being thown or any signs of a problem. I have been very careful to make sure I push the overdrive off button each time I start the vehicle up to make sure I dont hurt anything more than I already have. Does anyone know what I could be experiencing here? Truck info: 2004 F-150 2WD 4.6L Extended cab 70,000 miles Thanks, Nick |
First off; Welcome to FTE.
Second; brake pads are cheaper than transmissions. You need to have the codes read at a local parts house. |
I'm so confused by what you just said.... what does this issue have to do with my transmission... there are no codes I already checked.
|
he said use your brakes not 2nd gear and find someone with a GOOD scan tool like snap on and have them check it over, alot of the time they can see an issue that autozone style scanners cant see
|
and he said welcome to the forum

Ok sorry I wasn't thinkin like that. I definetely wont be engine breaking anymore.... does anyone else have any input?
|
No third or fourth? Sounds like the direct clutch, but if it's working fine now, could be a solenoid or valve body issue. Definetly take it somewhere professional and have codes pulled, preferably a trans shop who know how to inspect the transmission controls (solenoids and valves) to determine what's at fault.

Hard overdrive shift
I have a 2007 f150 XL 4.6L and roughly 62k miles on it and just recently started this issue. When i get to cruising above 40 mph approx. when it gets into overdrive, when i give a little gas to say speed up a little bit or go up a hill or what have you, it hits going down back into the lower gear and then hits a little less hard going back into overdrive. Any ideas about what this might be? All other shifting does smooth as always, just coming in and out of overdrive gear.

The 6th guy to post on that is a tranny mechanic, so he explains it a lot better than I can. Good luck, let us know. |
I am having problem with my trans shifting when load increases gradually. Does not seem to be as bad if the overdrive is off but still happens. Any ideas f150 2007

I had the same little snap ring break on my '04 at 90,000 miles.
This is an " in truck" repair. Go to youtube F150 transmission repair part 1, 2, & 3 shows exactly how to do it, very simple fix. Even gives snap ring part number |
