I would suspect a vacuum leak and it sounds like a big one so you should be able to find it fairly easy unless the leak is on the underside of the manifold in the valley.

i got some help from you before and now i need more. i just replaced the the intake manifold gasket and and the distributor. i put piston 1 tdc put distributor pointer on one but it just runs terrible it will only start if the distributor is rotated as far left as possible and i have to push the gas all the way down if i let of the gas it just dies. what do i need to do?
