how do you shut off the back up alarm when the tailgate is down or backing up a boat?? my 2008 had a button, I must be blind I cant see one on the 2011

 

As soon as the alarm starts an option pops up on the information center asking if you want to turn it off. Using the selector of the steering wheel, select off and then OK.

I removed the back up alarm in a buddies F150 a couple of years ago and I replaced his drivers side back up light bulb. The bulb had a alarm noise maker built right into the bulb. Replaced the bulb with a standard bulb and the alarm went away. I don't know if its the same thing today though.

 

Sounds like you might be talking about the exterior chime backup alert... you know... the beep, beep, beep thing....I think bobby was asking about the interior backup alarm.... the ding, ding, ding thing.

 

I thought that when a trailer is plugged in the chime is supposed to be shut off? I guess the new trucks don't just have the simple button next to the 4x4 switch?

 

Mine even beeps at me if I leave my hitch in the receiver. It's a pretty substantial hitch though. I finally got tired of canceling it every time I backed up and removed the hitch for the time being.

 

Yes, it shuts off when a trailer is connected. The on/off screen also pops up whenever you put it into reverse.

 

Wow, the only thing that happens when I back up is the rear view mirror camera picture comes on and I start moving in reverse. No ding-ding.

 

Mine does not alarm when there is a 7 pin trailer plug in the socket, maybe the 4 pin is not "smart" enough to signal the alarm to be off?

I wonder if a fake plug could be made to leave in the socket so that the backup alarm is always off? But then, the truck would think that there is a trailer there, activate the anti-sway system, run different calculations on the oil life, who knows how many other things would be thrown off.

 

You need the Reverse Vehicle Aid Sensor. Order code 76R. Standard on Lariat. Optional on XLT.

If you have it, it will start to beep after you place the truck in reverse... but only when you approach within so many feet of an obstacle.
As you get closer to the object the beep will quicken. When it becomes a steady beep you are almost up against the obstacle.

I had this on my 03' dually and became so dependent on it that when I ordered my 11' I made sure that I had it. I actually trust it/use it... more than the reverse camera.

 

My reverse alarm was driving me crazy. (the beep, beep, beep in the rear of the truck when backing up). I disconnected it. It is located on the frame behind the rear bumper on the passenger side. I just unplugged it and now I don't have to listen to it any more.

 

I miss the big button on the dash for the back up sensor that was on my 2008 F250. I could find it anytime, it never moved, and I could press it without looking and turn it off quickly.

It seems that when I back up with my tailgate down on the 2011 to hook up the 5th wheel, the steering wheel is always upside down when the alarm goes off and I have to locate the arrow buttons (that are now upside down and press down (or up!) and then OK. The message is displayed in the LCD screen and the only way to turn it off is to find the arrow keys and press ok. It kinda gets on my nerves how they programmed it like that. Ford - if you're listening, put the button back on the dash so its easy to find and its never upside down!!

 

So you actually have to answer a question to shut it off with the LCD screen?
I have the simple XLT screen and I only have to press the down button (reset) to shut it up. No answering any questions, [on] or [off].
The reset button could be up depending on the wheel position as you said but still easy to do.
